Welcome Letter

A Message From the Paul de Cinque - NBCA President

Welcome to the official website of the 2022 Australian National Band Championships.

On behalf of the National Band Council of Australia, I am pleased to invite you and your band to join us for the 2022 Australian National Band Championships, being held remotely in cities around the country.

We were all disappointed in 2020 when the Perth Nationals were cancelled with only weeks notice. Since then, the world has changed dramatically, and the effects of COVID-19 continue to be felt in our country. Our 2022 model is to "play locally, compete nationally," allowing for bands to play at the nationals without having to leave their own state. We will be announcing our venues across the country in the weeks to come.

We are excited to pair with Tim Kelly at Brassbanned even closer than ever to deliver the nationals to Australian bands. Bands will be scheduled across the weekend, and you will be able to tune in to watch bands performing in other states as the weekend progresses. On Sunday evening, the audio files will be sent to our team of adjudicators, with results being announced on Monday night.

We understand many of you may be worried about the risk of COVID and lockdowns. The NBCA is meeting regularly and will continue to review and adapt to changing circumstances. Others of you may be craving a full in-person event and be disappointed to not share your music in the same hall as your colleagues across the country. We can't wait for 2023 when we hope to run our first in-person live contest after COVID, but we believe that this model is the next best thing in the meantime.

If you have any questions regarding the nationals, please feel free to get in touch with us, or your NBCA state councillor.

We look forward to seeing you in April next year for a long overdue Nationals!

Regards,

Paul De Cinque

NBCA President
